Why many new Korean beauty brands start outside Olive Young
Brand websites, Naver stores, curated shops, department-store pop-ups and live shopping often come first. Here's how that route affects what you can buy.

A large health-and-beauty chain is only one route into the Korean market. Many new brands begin elsewhere, and some never move into the big chains at all. Knowing the usual first steps helps you look in the right places when a brand you read about is missing from a familiar shelf.
Common first channels
- The brand's own website and a brand store on a portal such as Naver
- Curated online retailers and live-shopping apps that present a small selection on video
- Department-store pop-ups and edit shops that rotate emerging brands
- Flagship or concept stores in districts such as Seongsu and Bukchon
SOOYA SEOUL's June 2026 launch followed the first pattern: the announcement named its Naver store and global website. THE CAST now lists the brand's scent oils, wash and lotion as a curated online retailer.
Department stores as a testing ground
Department stores have become another early route. Hyundai Department Store's Sinchon branch is hosting a Beauty Festa for more than 80 early-stage beauty brands until 15 December 2026, according to MTN. Shoppers can test products in person while the brands gather feedback from a broad audience.
Routes can overlap later
A brand that starts outside a chain can arrive there later, often with a narrower part of its range. NBPSIS is an example: on 29 October 2026 Olive Young's online search showed its lip products, while its Cinnamoroll skincare, sun care and cushion listings were found at THE CAST.
What this means when you shop
If you want a newer brand, check its own channels for stockists, then compare exact listings. A smaller assortment is not a weakness in itself; it can make it easier to understand each product's role before you order one.
