What Olive Young does best, and when to look elsewhere for Korean beauty
Olive Young is Korea's largest beauty retailer. This guide credits what it does well and names the moments when a curated store like THE CAST fits better.

A fair alternative starts with an honest account of the original. Olive Young earned its position, and an article that pretends otherwise would not help you choose.
What the numbers show
Personal Care Insights reported that Olive Young took KRW 2.94 trillion of a KRW 13.72 trillion Korean beauty retail market in the first half of 2026, about 21.5 per cent. An Electronic Times report said foreign customers made up about 33 per cent of its offline sales in August, and that 151 stores were designated global tourism zone stores with multilingual guidance.
What it does best
- Breadth: a very large number of brands and items in one place.
- Familiarity: the names most international shoppers already know.
- Convenience in Korea: many stores, quick pickup and tourist-friendly services.
- Price competition between similar products.
When to look elsewhere
Breadth has a cost. A shopper who wants something new can scroll through thousands of items and still not find a small brand. A Seoul Economic Daily report on 12 October 2026 quoted an indie brand official saying that entering Olive Young through a well-known YouTuber could cost up to KRW 80 million, which helps explain why many new brands start in other channels first.
Where THE CAST fits
THE CAST is built for that gap. It lists fewer brands and explains each one, so a shopper can try a scent-care brand such as SOOYA SEOUL, or a lip product from NBPSIS, with the product page open beside the story. For known staples at the lowest price, the chain remains a strong choice.
